Le Mexique attire toujours le constructeur américain malgré des chiffres en baisse.
Le géant américain Ford a considérablement réduit la production de poids lourds
au Mexique suite aux baisses des ventes enregistrées non seulement aux Etats-Unis
depuis l’année 2001 mais également dans des pays comme le Brésil. En effet, il
faut savoir que plus de 80% de la production de Ford au Mexique est destinée à
l’exportation, et surtout vers les Etats-Unis et le Canada.
Pourtant, dans un même temps, et pour anticiper un regain de l’activité, Ford
va investir 1,6 milliard de dollars (environ 1,4 milliards d'euros) au Mexique
dans ses usines d’assemblage et d’emboutissage d’Hermosillo pour la fabrication
300 000 modèles de sa prochaine berline dont la sortie est prévue en 2005, la
Ford Futura. Cela devrait créer 5 000 emplois dans les années a venir.
Cette délocalisation intervient à un moment où Ford ferme une grande partie de
ses usines de fabrication en Europe et même aux Etats-Unis, ce qui révèle encore
une fois, les avantages pour ce géant de l’automobile d’être présent au Mexique.
Avec cet investissement, Ford compte produire à l’avenir plusieurs modèles de
moyenne gamme sur les mêmes plate-formes qui serviront pour la Futura. Ainsi,
à une échéance de quelques années, Ford Motor (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury) compte
fabriquer 800 000 modèles par an.
