Volkswagen prévoit l’ouverture d’une usine d'autocars et de camions au Mexique après la disparition de son légendaire « Bocho ».
Volkswagen a dû récemment stopper la fabrication de la Coccinelle dans ses usines de Puebla et diminuer sa production de manière générale en raison de la baisse de la demande sur le marché Nord Américain. Cependant, conscient de l’importance de sa présence au Mexique, et afin de pouvoir limiter les pertes engendrées par les fluctuations de l’Euro par rapport au Dollar au premier trimestre 2003, le constructeur allemand a décidé d’augmenter sa production à moyen terme de camions essentiellement destiné au marché local. En effet, l’un des enjeux important de la présence des constructeurs au Mexique est la forte corrélation entre le cours du Peso et celui du Dollar permettant de limiter les risque de fluctuations entre le Dollar et l’Euro.
Pour ce faire, Volkswagen a annoncé ces jours-ci, la construction d’une nouvelle usine d’assemblage de camions et d’autocars et compte ainsi, d’ici 2006, prendre 15% de parts de marché sur ce segment au Mexique, avec des prévisions annuelles de l’ordre de 2 000 véhicules. Pour cela, Volkswagen importera en partie, des pièces de son usine de Resende au Brésil où elle fabrique actuellement plus de 20 000 véhicules par an. Reste à préciser l’emplacement de ce projet qu emploiera à son lancement une cinquantaine de personnes, et qui compensera en partie la fermeture des usines de Puebla cet été.
